Active-Duty First Responder Scholarship Program

The 100 Club of Central Texas provides scholarships to active-duty first responders who are furthering their education while serving our communities. Scholarship recipients receive funds to be used for tuition, books, and associated expenses at any accredited institution of higher education.

Opportunities

  • The First Responder Scholarship Program, founded by 100 Club co-founder Dr. James Moritz, grants $2,500.00 to up to six (6) first responders each year.
  • The William (Bill) Orr Memorial Scholarship for First Responders, presented by G T Distributors and the Orr Family, grants $5,000.00 to one (1) first responder each year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be accepted for admission to an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester.
  • Maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher (3.0 for graduate students).
  • Be employed as an active-duty first responder in one of the counties served by The 100 Club of Central Texas: Bastrop, Bell, Caldwell, Hays, Milam, Travis, or Williamson (Scholarship recipients should maintain employment with a qualifying agency throughout the scholarship period. It is the duty of the recipient to inform The Club if their employment changes during the scholarship period. Funds may be revoked if this criteria is not met).
  • Have permission from their supervisor.

Note: Federal first responders are not eligible to apply

Application Process

There is a single application for all scholarships awarded by The 100 Club of Central Texas. All applicants will be considered for both the First Responder Scholarship Program and the William (Bill) Orr Memorial Scholarship for First Responders. Each applicant will be awarded only one (1) scholarship per calendar year.

Evaluation

Applicants are evaluated by the 100 Club Scholarship Committee with each applicant evaluated on academic achievements, financial need, extracurricular activities, work experience, letters of recommendation, and leadership in your department as well as the community.

Scholarship Administration

All scholarships are awarded at the annual Awards Ceremony in the spring. Once awarded, the scholarship is active for one (1) calendar year. Disbursement of funds will be made from The 100 Club of Central Texas to the accredited institution for payment of fees and expenses. Reimbursement for books and associated expenses will be made from The 100 Club of Central Texas to the scholarship recipient only after confirmation of purchase or rental of books, equipment, etc. has been received.

The 100 Club of Central Texas reserves the right to award, rescind, or discontinue funding of any scholarship at our discretion. Scholarship recipients must begin using their scholarship within the calendar year that the scholarship is awarded.
