Bills We Are Watching
With the Texas Legislature in session, there are several bills that will effect our first responders. Two, in particular, will support the work already being done by The 100 Club of Central Texas.
House Bill 364
House Bill 364 relates to the exemptions for disabled peace officers and firefighters from payment of tuition and fees at public institutions of higher education. Currently, public institutions of higher education have the option to waive tuition and fees for permanently disabled peace officers. This bill seeks to expand that coverage to firefighters, as well, and to change the language from an optional exemption to a mandatory one.
We ask that you reach out to your state legislators to encourage them to support House Bill 364 and the education of our peace officers and firefighters. Download a sample letter to your legislature here.
Senate Bill 12
Senate Bill 12 creates a grant program to assist all law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Texas with the purchase of bulletproof vests. The support provided by this grant program, combined with the assistance of the business community and organizations like ours, we can secure much need protection for all law enforcement officers.
We ask that you reach out to your state legislators to encourage them to support Senate Bill 12 and help protect our law enforcement officers. Download a sample letter to your legislature here.
